Schiller Wins Honor in Nice, France
Of 166 posters from around the world presented by scientists during the Final Symposium of GODAE (Global Ocean Data Assimilation Experiment) held in Nice, France, a poster submitted by UM Rosenstiel School Ph.D. student, Rafael Schiller earned a coveted ‘Best Poster’ Award at the Ocean Forecasting Symposium. The research was part of a collaborative effort supported by the Office of Naval Research, the National Ocean Partnership Program (NOPP), the NOAA Cooperative Institute of Marine and Atmospheric Science (CIMAS) and the NOAA Northern Gulf of Mexico Cooperative Institute (NGI). 2008 Bonefish Census: Population Steady
If you’re looking for bonefish from Miami down to the Marquesas Islands, you have about 321,000 to choose from, that is down slightly from the average of previous censuses. According to the Rosenstiel School’s Dr. Jerry Ault, co-founder of the census along with Sandy Moret of Bonefish & Tarpon Unlimited, statistically there is no significant difference year over year, which can be attributed to a variety of factors. This year 64 professional fishing guides, scientists and graduate students covered 1,575 square miles in the census. Read more…
